Jess Fife is a Toronto-based painter working in acrylics and water-mixable oils on canvas, and digital. Her work explores perception, embodiment, memory, and access through landscapes, nature, and cityscapes. Emerging from the unstable space between confinement and return, Fife’s paintings reflect the urgency of seeing, feeling, and creating while the body allows it.

Using heightened colour, expressive brushwork, thick paint, abstraction, movement, and emotionally charged light, she transforms observed, remembered, and imagined moments into vivid records of beauty, longing, travel, and escape. Informed by Impressionism, Expressionism, Fauvism and Abstraction her paintings resist literal documentation in favour of urgent, embodied impressions of beauty as it is seen, remembered, longed for, and held onto.

Fife’s work is both an act of defiance and a love letter to the world: a way of soaking up beauty while it is available, and sharing that beauty with others as a form of escape, connection, and survival.
